Today I ran across this great article on Thrillest regarding the biggest meals in New Orleans. I’ve been to NOLA twice so far and each time I fall deeper in love with it. Between the food, the culture, the weather, the Cajun accent and the absolutely stunning gems of architecture… I may have to eventually move there or buy a vacation home.
On the first trip my friends and I stumbled upon Palace Café, which to date is one of my favorite restaurants. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious and the service was friendly, informed about the menu, and overall impeccable. We ate at a number of other places but this is the one that stood out the most to me.
Our second trip the next year is when we experienced Café du Monde in all of its glory. I mean where could you possibly go wrong with fried dough and a pile of powdered sugar?
Yet the prize winner for this trip, and my favorite restaurant of all time is when we stumbled upon Chef John Besh’s Luke which was the in-hotel restaurant. We ate there every single day of our stay and gorged on the Baked Oysters which were absolute addiction. For some reason I didn’t order the Eggs in a Jar until the morning of our last day and I have been dreaming about them ever since.
The fact of the matter is that I don’t think you can go to New Orleans and have bad food. (Actually I have to take that back as we had a bit of a underwhelmed experience at Red Fish Grill, but it wasn’t bad per say…. just extremely boring and overpriced.)
We had no idea prior to this trip that Luke even existed and yet we just walked into it and fell in love. The same with Palace Café and the great little fish shack from my previous post… that’s what I’ve come to expect from this grand city. It’s a city of exploration and 9 times out of 10 when you stop somewhere that looks interesting to you… what you see and or taste is going to be amazing.
